Steinhauer named Interim Director of Sports Performance

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland Director of Athletics Ron Pavan announced the appointment of Levi Steinhauer as Interim Director of Sports Performance effective this week. Steinhauer replaces Ryan Cotton, who took a position at SMU at the end of January.

Steinhauer joined the Sports Performance staff as a graduate assistant during Fall 2018, working with Phoenix football team.

He came to Cumberland after serving eight months as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Men’s Chinese Table Tennis A and B-Teams, working individually with the fifth and seventh-ranked table tennis athletes in the world. He also worked with the Chinese National Men’s Open Rowing Team during his time in China.

The Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, native spent 18 months in Strength and Conditioning at the University of Regina in 2016-17, leading the strength programs for football, women’s basketball and women’s soccer for the Rams. He wrote and implemented all strength and conditioning activities for the three sports.

Steinhauer played collegiate football at the University of Saskatchewan and was drafted 40th overall in the 2013 CFL Canadian Draft by the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

He spent five seasons in the Canadian Football League, four years with the Roughriders, including winning the 101st CFL Grey Cup Championship in 2013, and one season with the Edmonton Eskimos. He earned Rookie of the Year honors with the Roughriders in 2013 as well.

Steinhauer earned his bachelor’s in Kinesiology from the University of Saskatchewan in June 2015, concentrating his studies in Exercise and Sports Studies.
