TranSouth baseball tourney postponed

JACKSON, Tenn. – Due to heavy rains in the area that are forecast all day and night, the 2011 TranSouth Championships baseball tournament has been postponed. Games will begin as scheduled on Tuesday, with No. 1 seed Cumberland University taking on Bethel University at Noon at Fesmire Field on the Union University campus.

Cumberland swept Bethel three weeks ago in McKenzie in the regular season series, winning 5-2 and 1-0 in Friday’s doubleheader and outlasting the Wildcats, 18-15, in Saturday’s single game. The Bulldogs (42-12) won their third straight TranSouth Conference regular season championship and the 19th regular season conference title under head coach Woody Hunt with a sweep of Mid-Continent on Thursday and Friday in Lebanon.

CU also reached the 40-win plateau for the 22nd time in 28 years since becoming a four-year program in 1984.
