LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland’s Kevin T. Greene earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association Baseball Pitcher of the Week accolades for his performance last week for the Bulldogs.
Greene tossed seven shutout innings against NCAA Division II Union University, allowing just two hits with one walk and 11 strikeouts. The lefthander retired the first eight hitters of the game before allowing a walk and a single. He then set down 11 in a row before giving up a single in the seventh inning. The Knoxville, Tenn., native struck out the final two batters of the game to finish off the one-hour, 31-minute affair.
Greene is 2-0 with a 1.35 earned-run-average in 13.1 innings for the Bulldogs this season, allowing just two total runs with three walks and 13 strikeouts. Opponents are batting just .152 against the junior.
Cumberland plays at No. 9 Faulkner University on Tuesday before opening Mid-South Conference action this weekend with a three-game series against 20th-ranked Georgetown College.
