CU baseball picked third in MSC Coaches' Poll

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland baseball was picked third in the Mid-South Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll released recently by the league office.

Head coach Woody Hunt enters his 38th season at the helm of the program and returns 18 total letterwinners, including six pitchers, from last season’s club that finished 36-21 overall, losing in the NAIA Championship Opening Round.

Jared Schmidt, Mykel Gordon and Peyton Wheatley are the only returning everyday starters while Kyle Blackwell saw action in 42 games with 26 starts as well. Thomas Galart and Polo Portela along with Blake Young all compiled more than 45 innings on the mound last season for CU.

Campbellsville University was selected to win the Mid-South Conference, receiving five first-place votes and 35 total points while the University of the Cumberlands was second with two first-place votes and 31 points. Cumberland was next with 27 points, followed by Georgetown College (18) and Lindsey Wilson (16). The University of Pikeville (14) and Shawnee State (6) rounded out the poll.
