Baseball radio broadcast schedule includes 42 regular season games

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland baseball will broadcast a record 42 regular season games on radio in 2019, including all home contests and all Mid-South Conference outings, as announced this week by Director of Athletics Ron Pavan.

In addition six other regular season games are set for internet-only broadcasts at www.GoCumberlandAthletics.com.

Mitch Walters returns for his 22nd season as the Voice of the Phoenix, handling play-by-play duties for the 42 contests on WANT 98.9 FM or WCOR 1490 AM. Weekday afternoon games are broadcast on WCOR while any night or weekend contests may be heard on both stations. All radio broadcasts begin with a 15-minute pregame show before first pitch.

Long-time Cumberland baseball supporter and fan Randy Sallis will join Walters this year for color commentary.

Cumberland opens the 2019 season with four games in Oklahoma City, Okla., taking on Oklahoma City University, Mount Mercy University and Southern Nazarene on February 8-9. CU also plays at Bryan College on Feb. 13 before starting the home schedule with a four-game series against Taylor University on Feb. 15-16 at Ernest L. Stockton Field-Woody Hunt Stadium.

The radio broadcast schedule includes the four-game series versus Taylor as well as weekend games against Indiana Wesleyan (March 1-2), Indiana-South Bend (March 9-10), at the University of Pikeville (March 15-16), at Lindsey Wilson (March 22-23), Shawnee State (March 29-30), Georgetown College (April 5-6), at Campbellsville University (April 12-13), the University of the Cumberlands (April 19-20) and Kentucky Christian (April 26-27).

Midweek radio broadcasts begin Feb. 26 against Bethel University and include two games with Baker University (March 12-13) and single outings versus Georgia Gwinnett (March 20), Tennessee Wesleyan (March 27), Freed-Hardeman (April 9), Brescia University (April 10), Bryan College (April 16), Martin Methodist (April 23) and Reinhardt University (April 24).

The Mid-South Conference Championships take place May 2-5 in Bowling Green, Ky., while the NAIA Championship Opening Round is set for May 13-16 and the 63rd Annual Avista-NAIA World Series begins May 24 in Lewiston, Idaho. All postseason contests may also be heard on radio.

Internet-only broadcasts are set for Feb. 19 at Tennessee Wesleyan, Feb. 22-23 at the University of Mobile, March 19 at Martin Methodist, April 15 at Freed-Hardeman and April 17 at Georgia Gwinnett. All games on radio may also be heard at www.GoCumberlandAthletics.com.
