LEBANON, Tenn. – Former Cumberland University catcher David Fanshawe has signed a professional contract with the Schaumburg Boomers in the Frontier League for the 2012 season.
The Miami, Fla., native was a First Team All-TranSouth Conference selection in 2010, batting .342 with 15 doubles, 13 home runs and 49 RBIs as a member of the program’s national championship team. Even more important behind the plate, Fanshawe caught more than 90 percent of the innings that season, helping the Bulldogs post a 58-9 overall record and a 3.76 team earned-run-average. He also threw out 34 percent of potential baserunners.
Fanshawe posted a .316 career batting average in two seasons with 19 homers and 88 RBIs along with 62 walks in 116 career games for CU.
He was a four-year letter winner at Brito Miami Private School, earning Second Team All-Dade County and First Team All-State honors as a senior for the FHSAA’s 7A state champions. Fanshawe played one season at St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Fla., before transferring to Broward Community College for his sophomore season where he batted .303 with 24 RBIs in 42 games.
