LEBANON, Tenn. – DJ Chaffin led the way with a 211 average over six games and Lauren Adams bowled a 178, as the Cumberland men’s and women’s bowling team both placed in the top 20 at the Orange and Black Classic at Beaver-Vu Bowl in Beavercreek, Ohio, on October 16.
Chaffin, a freshman from Lebanon, Tenn., tied for 15th out of 393 bowlers in the men’s division with 1266 pins en route to his highest finish of the season. Freshmen Ryan Cox and Theo Shipp finished the tournament in 79th and 111th place, respectively, with totals of 1150 and 1106 pins.
In the women’s division, Adams bowled 1069 pins, placing a season high 39th among 225 bowlers. Freshman Shelby Swindell also finished in a three way tie for 50th with 1047 pins.
“The competition was difficult, as we put first-year bowlers up against established teams with three and four-year bowlers,” coach Jeff Bonner said. “However, we are not disappointed with our team result. Our goal is to finish Top 64 nationally for the opportunity to compete at a national qualifying event.”
Cumberland next competes at the Southern Collegiate Classic on November 6 at Brunswick Zone in Marietta, Ga.
