Bill McCormick

Bill McCormick enters his sixth season as the tennis coach at Cumberland for both the men’s and women’s programs. He has led the Bulldog men to three straight NAIA National Tournament appearances and the women reached the national tournament in 2013 as well.

McCormick has led the men's team to the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Tournament in each of the last two seasons and CU owns a 52-14 mark over the last three campaigns. The Bulldogs won the TranSouth Conference regular season championship in 2012 and tied for the TSAC regular season title in 2011. The Bulldogs claimed the 2014 Mid-South Conference regular season title as well, the program's fourth MSC crown.

Antonio Manuel Marcelo has garnered NAIA All-America honors in each of the last three seasons while Pedro Rodrigues was a Second Team selection in 2013 and Pablo Borrero earned Second Team accolades in 2014.

Cumberland got off to a 1-4 start this past season but then won 13 consecutive matches to rise to No. 6 in the national rankings, defeating five ranked opponents along the way, including sixth-ranked Lindsey Wilson to win the Mid-South regular season title. The Bulldogs defeated No. 11 Concordia [CA] University in the Round of 16 at the NAIA National Tournament before falling to eventual national champion Georgia Gwinnett in the quarterfinals.

Marcelo, Borrero and Rodrigues all garnered First Team All-Mid-South Conference recognition and Diogo Soares and Andres Burgos both earned Second Team honors while Marcelo was voted MSC Player of the Year for the second straight season. McCormick was named Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year as well.

He took over the women's program and immediately won the TranSouth regular season championship in 2010 before rebuilding the women's team over the next two years. CU returned to national prominence in 2013, finishing 14-7 overall and reaching the NAIA National Tournament for the first time under McCormick. Angelica Sepulveda earned Second Team All-America honors in 2012 as well.

McCormick is a United States Tennis Association (USTA) certified professional with over 25 years of teaching experience. He has worked as the Head Professional at four different tennis clubs and has served as the Head Pro and Director of Tennis since 2000 at the Gallatin Civic Center/Municipal Tennis Facility in Gallatin, Tenn.

Previously McCormick spent 10 years as the Head Pro and Director of Tennis at Indian Lake Swim and Tennis Club in Hendersonville, Tenn., from 1995-2005.

He had worked previously as the Head Professional at Queen City Racquet Club in Cincinnati for 10 years, coaching many nationally ranked juniors, including several who won national junior and collegiate championships.

McCormick received a bachelor’s in Sociology from the University of Cincinnati in 1983. He played No. 1 singles and doubles for the Bearcats, serving as team captain and earning All-Metro Conference honors during his career.
