LEBANON, Tenn.--After spending two weeks in the rankings, the newest NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll dropped the Phoenix football team to receiving votes. The drop comes on the heels of a 38-26 loss to now 22nd-ranked Keiser this past Saturday.
Cumberland (3-1, 1-0 MSC) has earned votes in every Coaches’ Poll to this point in the season, moving as high as 23rd in the previous ranking.
The team currently resides in the top 25 of the NAIA in six distinct categories: No. 5 in sacks against/game (0.5), No. 14 in rushing offense/game (210.5), No. 17 in total defense/game (298.3), No. 17 in third down conversion percentage (42.2), No. 22 in fourth down conversion percentage (60.0), No. 23 in pass defense/game (165.0). The team’s strong points being focused around good defense and protecting the ball has led to them being among the Mid-South Conference’s leaders in time of possession at 34:43 per game.
Cumberland takes the weekend off this Saturday, before hitting the road to take on a top-10 ranked Lindsey Wilson in Columbia, Ky.
