As part of his special teams duties, CU ranked fifth nationally in punt return yards per attempt (15.7) in 2014 and 17th in kickoff return yards per attempt (22.3) in 2013.

Luce spent two years as a graduate assistant at Cumberland in 2004-05, coaching defense his first season and developing weekly scouting reports as well as handling both the offensive and defensive scout teams. He was responsible for running backs during his second season along with special teams and helped recruit southeast Tennessee and Florida. He also handled video editing for the offense and defense. He spent the spring of 2006 at Cumberland finishing his master's with former head coach Dewayne Alexander.

Luce then spent two seasons at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo., coaching running backs and signaling plays in a no-huddle offense for the Tigers. He contributed to the development, implementation and strategy for weekly game plans and handled recruiting responsibilities in the states of Florida, Ohio, Arizona, California, Oregon and Washington. He also handled video editing for the offense, defense and special teams as well and one player was voted First Team All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

From there Luce moved to Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, coaching running backs and signaling plays in a no-huddle offense for three seasons for the Lords. He contributed heavily in game planning and scouting reports and was in charge of the punt team during his time at Kenyon. He handled video editing for the offense and was responsible for recruiting in the states of Ohio, Colorado, Michigan, western New York and Florida. Luce also served as the team's equipment manager during one season.

Luce received his bachelor's in Health and Physical Recreation from Heidelberg College in 2004 and earned his master's in Organizational Leadership and Human Relations from Cumberland in 2006. He married the former Jennifer Seward from Newberg, Ore., in June 2016.
