Springer named TSAC Player of the Week
LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland University’s Brandon Springer was recognized Monday by the TranSouth Conference for another week of double-doubles as the senior earned Player of the Week honors in the league.
The Nashville, Tenn., native has recorded a double-double in each of Cumberland’s seven conference games, including three last week. Scoring 24.3 points and pulling down 10.3 rebounds per contest, Springer led the Bulldogs to a 2-1 record, which included a win over then-No. 18 Union University.
Springer’s best outing of the week came Saturday night in a loss to Martin Methodist as the Hunters Lane High School product totaled 31 points and snared 11 rebounds. He connected on 13 of his 19 shots (68.4 percent) and was perfect from the free throw line.
The leading scorer in the NAIA, Springer is averaging 24 points and 10.4 rebounds per outing and is one of only two players in the nation to average a double-double that includes at least 20 points. His rebounding average ranks eighth in the nation.
This marks the second time in three weeks and third time this season that the Columbia State Community College transfer has been recognized by the league after taking home Co-Player of the Week accolades for the week ending January 10th. Springer was also tabbed the Co-Player of the Week for the week ending December 6th.
Cumberland will travel to Mid-Continent on Saturday before returning home to the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center on February 4th to play Lyon College.
