Bulldogs drop third straight
LEBANON, Tenn. – Adrian Williamson scored a season-high 23 points, but Cumberland University blew a six-point halftime lead to drop an 81-73 decision to homestanding Talladega College Tuesday night.
The third straight loss for the Bulldogs (2-9) marks the third time this season that CU has dropped three in a row.
Cumberland shot just 36 percent from the field in the first half, but managed to take a 34-28 lead thanks to 9-of-10 shooting from the free throw line. The Tornadoes, who shot 46 percent in the opening half, went 1-of-7 from the charity stripe.
Walter Simon and Lamar Brinkley contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively. Andrew Ayodeji went 2-for-3 from 3-point range and finished with nine points, while Brandon Springer also scored nine.
Talladega College had four players reach double digits, including Phil Wood, who scored a team-leading 19 points.
The Bulldogs face Fisk University Friday at 8 p.m. as part of the Rosa Stokes Classic. Three games are on tap during the annual event at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center with Trevecca Nazarene’s women taking on Fisk at 6 p.m. Friday. CU’s women will play Fisk on Saturday at 2 p.m.
