CU snaps losing skid with six-point win
LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland University avenged an earlier loss to Hiwassee College as the Bulldogs picked up an 85-79 victory in Madisonville, Tenn., Wednesday night.
The win, only the second of the year for Lonnie Thompson’s squad, ended a three-game losing streak for CU. The Bulldogs also dropped an exhibition game to Middle Tennessee State University during that stretch.
Preseason All-American Brandon Springer scored a team-high 27 points, who has scored at least 20 points in five of Cumberland’s eight games, including 23 in a loss to the Tigers last month.
Lamar Brinkley added 16 points, while Andrew Ayodeji contributed 14.
The Bulldogs return to action Friday and Saturday, taking part in the West Virginia Tech Classic. CU will face the host Golden Bears on the opening day at 5 p.m. and play Daemen College Saturday at noon. The next home game for Cumberland is Friday, December 11 against Fisk University in the annual Rosa Stokes Classic.
