2016-17 men's basketball schedule announced

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland men’s basketball coach Lonnie Thompson announced the program’s 2016-17 schedule on Thursday, with the Phoenix playing 11 contests at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center and 11 games against teams that played in last year’s NAIA National Tournament.

Cumberland opens the season November 1 at home against Oakwood University before heading to Huntington, Ind., to face the University of St. Francis [IN] and host Huntington University. CU travels to Freed-Hardeman on Nov. 10 and Oakwood on Nov. 12 before an exhibition at UT Martin on Nov. 15.

The Phoenix return home the next night to take on Fisk University before another exhibition, this one at North Alabama on Nov. 19. Freed-Hardeman comes to Lebanon on Nov. 22 and Cumberland begins Mid-South Conference play with a home game against Life University on Nov. 28 before traveling to Campbellsville University on December 1.

CU hosts Martin Methodist on the weekend after finals and plays three times away from home the next week before the Christmas break, taking on Bethel University in McKenzie and Carver College and Dalton State College in Dalton, Ga.

Cumberland returns after the New Year to face Lindenwood University in its third exhibition of the season and travels to Nashville to face Fisk on Jan. 7. The Phoenix take on Lindsey Wilson at home on Jan. 9 to begin Mid-South Conference action for the remainder of the year.

The University of the Cumberlands and the University of Pikeville come to Lebanon later in the week after the Lindsey Wilson contest and CU also hosts Campbellsville on Feb. 4, Georgetown College on Feb. 23 and Shawnee State on Feb. 25 to end the regular season.

The Mid-South Conference Championships take place March 3-5 in Frankfort, Ky., and the 80th Annual NAIA Championships are March 15-21 in Kansas City, Mo.
