Men's hoops announces 2017-18 schedule

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland University men’s basketball coach Lonnie Thompson announced the team’s 2017-18 schedule this week, which includes 13 home games and 13 contests against teams that played in last year’s NAIA Championships.

The Phoenix open the season with three straight home games, taking on Oakwood University on October 30 and hosting Fisk University on November 1 and Martin Methodist on Nov. 4. CU then plays 12 of its next 14 contests away from the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center, starting Nov. 7 with an exhibition game at Western Kentucky.

The Phoenix travel to Oakwood (Nov. 9) and Freed-Hardeman (Nov. 11) before hosting William Carey on Nov. 16. Cumberland plays exhibitions at Delta State (Nov. 18) and North Alabama (Nov. 19) before heading to Martin Methodist on Nov. 21 and then taking a break for Thanksgiving.

November closes with a home contest versus Freed-Hardeman (Nov. 28) and a road game at Fisk (Nov. 30). The Phoenix open December at William Carey on the ninth and head to Lee University on Dec. 12 and Stillman College on Dec. 14 before taking part in the Roadrunner Classic in Dalton, Ga., on Dec. 29-30, facing Dalton State College and Carver College.

Cumberland hosts Stillman College on January 4 to start the New Year. All 14 Mid-South Conference games take place in January and February this season beginning Jan. 6 at Lindsey Wilson.

Cumberland plays four of its first six league contests on the road, including visits to the University of Pikeville (Jan. 11), Shawnee State (Jan. 13) and Georgetown College (Jan. 25). The University of the Cumberlands (Jan. 18) and Life University (Jan. 20) visit the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center during the month as well, as does Campbellsville University on Jan. 27.

The schedule reverses starting February 1 with a home game against Lindsey Wilson followed by home outings versus Shawnee State (Feb. 8) and Pikeville (Feb. 10). Senior Day takes place Feb. 24 against Georgetown College and the 2018 Mid-South Conference Championships take place March 1-4 in Pikeville, Ky. The 81stth Annual NAIA Championships are scheduled for March 15-21 in Kansas City, Mo.
