LEBANON, Tenn.- Phoenix could not keep pace with Martin Methodist as they went 1-of-13 from beyond the three point line losing 75-60.

Cumberland (4-3) shot just 41.3% as a team, but had many opportunities that the Phoenix could not finish especially at the rim. To go along with the poor shooting from beyond the arc, the team missed six free throw attempts and were out-rebounded. The first ten minutes of the game Cumberland looked real good defensively, but could not figure it out offensively.

DeMari Davis and Jalen Duke led the Phoenix with 15 points, respectively, while Davis accumulated nine rebounds and Duke picked up six. Sophomore Isaac Stephens shot 4-of-10 posting eight points with nine boards. Aaron Ridley and TJ Stargell registered seven and six points as the other two Phoenix starters. Cumberland only scored nine points off the bench, but the starters posted a lot of minutes in the game tonight.

Martin Methodist (5-1) shot 50.9% from the field and 34.8% from three point land. The RedHawks came out and started the game slow, but about at the halfway point of the first half the RedHawks took over and never looked back.

Three RedHawks players broke into double digits led by Shondell Jackson who posted 25 points, led all scorers, on 5-of-8 shooting and hit three three pointers. Felix Hayes recorded 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting and Darrin Jenkins collected 13 points on a very efficient 5-of-7.

Duke opened up the game with a lay up after Ridley picked up a steal. Cumberland and Martin Methodist proceeded to trade points back and forth with no team gaining a big advantage early on. The Phoenix floated around with a lead with lead 10 minutes into the game, Davis posted a big jam to extend to 16-13, but that was the last lead that Cumberland held all game. Jackson hit a three to tie it and proceeded to go on a 15-4 run to push the lead quick. Cumberland tried hard to get back in this game before halftime going on an 8-2 run of their own highlighted by Jalen Duke hitting the lone three that the Phoenix hit at the buzzer.

The Phoenix had a chance to come out and make some plays to  make it a game out of the half, but could not finish some of their shots at the basket. The RedHawks capitalized on the opportunities to extend their lead up 45-30 in the first four minutes of the half. Martin Methodist fell apart offensively for a stretch to help the Phoenix make a 12-3 run to get it back to 48-42. Stephens made six of his eight points during the run, all six points came from inside the paint. However, this is as close as Cumberland would make the game in the second half as Martin Methodist would find their flow of the game and take over to beat the Phoenix, 75-60.

Cumberland doesn't have long before they are back on the floor again as CU takes on Philander Smith this Thursday at home at 7 p.m.
