Vaquero inks with Phoenix cross country
Tell City, Ind., native and Vincennes University transfer Seth Vaquero signed scholarship papers with CU cross country for the 2019-20 academic year.

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland cross country coach Jim Seckel announced the signing of Tell City, Ind., native Seth Vaquero to scholarship papers this week for the 2019-20 academic year.

Vaquero qualified for the NJCAA national championships in each of the last two seasons at Vincennes University in Indiana. He also earned All-America honors indoors twice and outdoors this past season as part of the 4x800-meter relay for the Trailblazers.

“The addition of Seth will add to the experience level of what will be a young team next year,” Seckel said. “He brings valuable experience – two years of college-level training and running at the national level. He also has excellent range across the distance we run; it is not often we have the opportunity to bring in an athlete who has run 1:54 in 800-meters and 26:30 in an 8K."

Vaquero lettered four years in track and cross country at Tell City Junior Senior High School for coaches Chris Hollinden and Brian Beckort, winning a regional championship in the 800-meters as a junior and a sectional title in the same event as a sophomore. He qualified for the Indiana state meet in the 800 as both a junior and senior. He also lettered three years in swimming for the Marksmen.
