LEBANON, Tenn. – Eight Cumberland University athletic teams posted team grade-point-averages of 3.00 or higher for the 2010-11 academic year, earning NAIA Scholar Team honors, as announced by the national office. Teams must record a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution to be eligible for the award. The team GPA includes all varsity student-athletes certified as eligible.

A record total of 934 teams, an increase over last year’s total of 857, received the award. Seven Cumberland teams earned the NAIA Scholar Team award for the 2009-10 academic year, including women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s tennis, football, baseball and softball.

Women’s golf maintained the highest team GPA within the department for the second consecutive year. Among schools in the TranSouth Conference, Union University and Blue Mountain College both had three teams on the list, while Bethel University and Trevecca Nazarene each had one.
