Polston, Whittemore each shoot 74, CU men tied for second

LEBANON, Tenn. – Senior Ian Whittemore and junior Zach Polston each fired two-over par rounds of 74 and Cumberland is tied for second in the team standings, only four shots off the lead, after the first round of the Skyhawk Invitational on Monday in Callaway Gardens, Ga.

Polston and Whittemore along with Tennessee Wesleyan’s Ryan Hoover are tied for third individually, two strokes behind Trevecca University’s Larken Whittemore and Point University’s Francisco Oliveira, who both shot even-par 72 in the opening round.

Sophomore Garrett Daniel carded a five-over 77 in the first round, tied for 12th, while redshirt freshman Josh Wilson posted an eight-over 80 in the opening round, tied for 45th. Freshmen Jacob Nolen and Colby Bolton registered scores of 84 and 86, respectively, tied for 67th and 74th.

As a team Cumberland and Reinhardt University are tied for second, four shots behind tournament host Point University. Three other schools – Milligan College, Trevecca and Lindsey Wilson – are all within nine shots of the lead.
