LEBANON, Tenn. – Junior Zach Polston carded an opening-round 74 that included five birdies and Cumberland stands tied for second along with two other teams on Monday at the Mid-South Conference Spring Invitational at Crooked Creek Golf Club in London, Ky.

A double bogey on the par-5 18th hole kept Polston from tying for the first round lead. The Lafayette, Tenn., native had seven pars and five bogeys to go with his five birdies. He trails Lindsey Wilson’s Alex Durham and Rasmus Lind by two strokes heading into Tuesday’s final round and is tied for sixth.

Senior Zach Kean registered three birdies in his round of four-over par 76. The Lafayette, Tenn., native is tied for 10th along with three other players who are just four shots off the lead. Kean birdied the par-5 18th, his final hole of the day, but made double bogey on the par-3 11th as well, his only double in the round.

Freshman Jacon Nolen collected 11 pars and birdied the par-5 18th hole, shooting an opening-round 79, seven-over par. Sophomore Garrett Daniel netted 12 pars in his round of 80, but a pair of double bogeys in the last five holes derailed his round. Nolen is tied for 19th and Daniel tied for 24th heading into Tuesday.

Senior Zach Johnson struggled through his first round, posting an 82 with just one birdie and nine pars. A double bogey and a triple bogey in a four-hole stretch on the back nine were the main culprits for the Tampa, Fla., native, who is tied for 34th.

Lindsey Wilson shot a blistering 292 as a team to hold the overall lead by 17 shots over Cumberland, Asbury University and the University of the Cumberlands.
