Williams shoots two-under in opening round

LEBANON, Tenn. – Senior Austin Williams shot two-under par 70 and junior Garrett Daniel carded even-par 72 for Cumberland men’s golf on Monday at the Mid-South Conference Fall Invitational in Georgetown, Ky.

Williams and Georgetown College’s Kaleb Lester are tied for third, four strokes behind Ben Kendrick from the University of the Cumberlands, who fired an opening-round 66 on Monday. Daniel is two shots in back of Williams and tied for eighth in a cluster of four players six strokes off the lead.

Senior Zach Polston recorded a first-round 75 and is tied for 21st, while sophomore Jacob Nolen carded an opening-round 77, tied for 32nd. Freshman Reece Gaddes opened the tournament with a 78, tied for 40th.

The Cumberlands posted a one-under team score of 287 in the first round, one stroke ahead of Lindsey Wilson and three in front of Georgetown. Cumberland is fifth, seven shots behind heading into Tuesday’s final round.
