Daniel cards 69, CU places third at RedHawk Classic

LEBANON, Tenn. – Junior Garrett Daniel carded the low round of the tournament with a three-under par 69 and senior Zach Polston shot even-par 72, leading Cumberland men’s golf to a third-place team showing on Tuesday at the RedHawk Fall Classic at Canebrake Club in Athens, Tenn.

Daniel moved up nine spots to fourth place overall with his best round of the fall. The Linden, Tenn., native finished at two-over par 145 for 36 holes, four shots in back of Loyola University’s Philip Nijoka, the tournament medalist.

Polston also capped the fall schedule for the men with his best round, shooting even-par 72. The Lafayette, Tenn., native tied for 18th overall. Freshman Reece Gaddes registered a final-round two-over 74, tying for 17th, while sophomore Colby Bolton shot 86 on Tuesday, placing 51st.

As a team Cumberland posted its best score of the fall as well at 288, finishing third among 10 teams. Loyola won the team title by seven shots over Faulkner University and was nine ahead of the Phoenix.
