Henderson cards first round 73, CU third at Reinhardt

LEBANON, Tenn. – Freshman Nick Henderson shot one-over par 73 and freshman Adrian Steeger and sophomore Bryson Smith each posted four-over 76 for Cumberland men’s golf Monday in the Reinhardt University Invitational at Callahan Golf Links in Waleska, Ga.

The Phoenix stand third among six teams in the tournament and play the second round Tuesday beginning at 8:50 a.m. CT. Truett-McConnell holds the overall lead and host Reinhardt is second, eight strokes in front of Cumberland.

Henderson recorded a one-over 73, three shots behind the leader, Truett-McConnell’s Matt Smith, and tied for third with TWU’s Dawson Day. Reinhardt’s Jake McWhorter is second at even-par.

Steeger and Smith both carded four-over par scores of 76, tied for eighth but only two strokes from the Top 5.

Garrett Daniel registered a first-round 81, tied for 21st, while sophomore Reece Gaddes shot an opening-round 83, tied for 25th.
