Michailidis named TranSouth Player of the Week

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland’s Michael Michailidis was named the TranSouth men’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after helping the Bulldogs to a pair of 1-0 victories last week.
Michailidis posted two shutouts in three matches as the Bulldogs went 2-1 on the week. The junior totaled 20 saves and allowed only one goal in the three outings, shutting out Union University and Freed-Hardeman. CU lost 1-0 to Lyon earlier last week.
Michailidis had eight saves in the victory last Thursday at Freed-Hardeman, as Kempess Villafana scored on an assist from Robert Boyd in the 64th minute for the game-winner.
Against Union on Saturday, the Edenville, South Africa, native recorded 10 saves, with Villafana netting the match’s only goal in the 13th minute.
Cumberland enters this week 6-3-1 overall and 2-1 in TranSouth action. The Bulldogs host first-place Martin Methodist Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Friendship Christian Academy.
