Cumberland drops another close match

LEBANON, Tenn. – Juan Garzon scored twice and assisted on another goal and Daniel Ericcson added a goal and an assist, as Lambuth University scored twice in the final 15 minutes to put the game away in a 3-0 victory over Cumberland in men’s soccer action Monday in Jackson, Tenn.

Cumberland (2-6-0) lost for the second straight day in a close match, as the Bulldogs trailed 1-0 for more than 40 minutes before Garzon netted his second goal of the day in the 75th minute. Ericcson added the final back-breaker with a score in the 84th minute for the final tally.

Garzon put the Eagles (3-3-2) ahead with an unassisted goal in the 32nd minute, while Ericcson assisted on Garzon’s second goal. The two swapped roles for the final score.

Cumberland managed only nine shots in the match but forced Lambuth keeper Channing Johnson to make six saves. CU keeper Matthew Shattuck collected five saves in the loss.

Cumberland hosts Brescia University Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the CU Soccer Field.
