LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland’s Matthew Shattuck was named the TranSouth Conference Defensive Player of the Week after posting a 1-0-1 record in goal for the Bulldogs, including an overtime draw against NCAA Division III Covenant College.

The Huntsville, Ala., native leads the TranSouth with a 1.19 goals-against-average after giving up just one goal in more than 185 minutes of action in a pair of matches at the Trevecca Nazarene Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. He made seven saves, all from point-blank range or in 1-v-1 situations – in a 1-1 double overtime draw Friday against Covenant and then posted three saves and gave up one goal in a little more than 75 minutes of work in a 5-1 victory over Brescia University.

Shattuck has recorded 21 saves in 455 minutes of action in 2011, posting a 2-2-1 record in net for the Bulldogs. He played in six matches with five starts in 2010, collecting 33 saves in 458 of work and played in just one match for 20 minutes as a freshman.

Cumberland plays its home opener Tuesday Campbellsville University at 3 p.m. and hosts third-ranked University of Rio Grande at 3:30 p.m. on Friday at the CU Soccer Field.
