LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland’s Matthew Shattuck earned TranSouth Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday after posting seven saves in a 2-1 victory over Union University last week.
The Huntsville, Ala., native faced 20 total shots from UU and made several saves at point-blank range, recording his sixth victory in goal this season. He leads the TranSouth with a 1.38 goals-against-average and has allowed one goal or less in nine of his 13 matches this season.
Cumberland hosts Freed-Hardeman on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the final regular season match of the year for the Bulldogs. If CU wins on Tuesday, it will host a match Saturday in the quarterfinals of the TranSouth Championships, likely against Union University.
