LEBANON, Tenn. – Oakland City’s Nico Gercke and Nick Little each scored and the Oaks held off a furious rally by Cumberland in a 2-1 OCU victory on Saturday afternoon in men’s soccer action in Oakland City, Ind.

The Bulldogs (1-8-1) remain winless in their last eight matches, a stretch that includes three one-goal losses and defeats to the No. 1 and No. 2-ranked teams in the nation.

Gercke put the Oaks (8-2-0) ahead for good with a goal in the 25th minute on assists from Little and Sascha Schmidt, finishing from 12 yards out. Little found the back of the net in the 59th minute on an assist from Jon Stroup, with the strong shot from 15 yards for the goal.

Cumberland got on the board finally in the 89th minute, with Tevonne Morris netting his second goal of the year on a header near the goalie box with the assist from Sebastian Cortes.

The Bulldogs outshot the home team, 17-12, in the match, including 13-7 in the second half, and two Oakland City keepers combined for eight saves. Ian Hamilton took the loss for CU, collecting four saves in net.

Cumberland faces Mid-Continent University at home on Monday at 2 p.m. at Nokes-Lasater Field and returns to Mid-South Conference action on Saturday, October 13 against Georgetown College.
