LEBANON, Tenn. – Diego Santos and Alex Pratt each scored a goal and assisted on another in Union University’s 4-0 victory over Cumberland on Monday night at the Smith Soccer Complex in Jackson, Tenn.
The loss ended the Bulldogs (6-9-1) five-match winning streak and was just the second loss in the last eight outings for the club.
Santos scored in the 39th minute on assists from Pratt and Kemal Gogic before Pratt found the back of the net less than three minutes later from Chip Crockarell. Santos provided a through ball to Jamie Fox for a score in the 68th minute and Guilherme Celli added an unassisted goal for Union in the 72nd minute.
Cumberland keeper Sully Shattuck made one save in the first half for the Bulldogs and Ian Hamilton came on to collect six saves in 45 minutes of action in the second period. CU was outshot, 20-4, in the match.
Cumberland opens play in the Mid-South Conference Championships on the road Saturday at 7:30 p.m. against Campbellsville University. With a victory the Bulldogs would advance to the semifinals and finals in Columbia, Ky., on November 7-8.
