LEBANON, Tenn. – Alex Marr posted a hat trick, Chuka Aruh scored twice and Jose Retana handed out three assists, as Cumberland scored seven times in the second half in a 10-0 win over the University of Pikeville in men’s soccer action Wednesday here at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field.

Cumberland (9-0-0, 2-0-0 Mid-South) hosts seventh-ranked Lindsey Wilson on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. for first place in the Mid-South Conference.

The Bulldogs led 3-0 at the half over the Bears (1-6-0, 0-4-0) and really poured on the offense in the second half with most of the starters on the bench.

Marr netted the final goal of the opening period for CU, taking a nice feed from Marty Owens and slotting a shot far post, past Pikeville’s Tait Torstenson, for his sixth goal of the year in the 39th minute.

Josh Armstrong put the Bulldogs in front in the ninth minute of the match, taking a deflection near the penalty spot and drilling the shot past Torstenson for his fourth goal of the season. Valentine Murombo then put on a beautiful display of dribbling before firing into the back of the net at the 24-minute mark for a 2-0 advantage.

Cumberland started the second half slowly until Elliot Goodwin’s goal from a bad angle down the right side in the 59th minute on an assist from Sella Gannot. That seemed to open the floodgates for the Bulldogs, who also began subbing judiciously from that point.

Marr’s second goal of the match at the 66-minute mark came on a chip over Torstenson near the top of the 18 on a nice pass from Retana.

Bruno Cunha picked up a loose ball near the net four minutes later for a goal after a free kick by Retana. Marr’s final goal was assisted by Aruh and Kurt Pierce, with Aruh playing the ball outside to Pierce for a cross to the front of the net and an easy score for Marr.

Torstenson made a nice play coming off his line against Aruh in the 73rd minute, but Aruh eventually won the ball back in a crowd near the endline and fired past the goalkeeper before he could get set again.

Pierce picked up a deflection just inside the box in the 76th minute and beat the keeper near post, his second goal of the year, and Aruh finished off the scoring three minutes later on an assist from Alex West.

Pikeville did not have a single shot in the match compared to 35 for the Bulldogs, with 20 of those coming in the second half.
