LEBANON, Tenn. – Elliot Goodwin scored the first goal and assisted on the second, as Cumberland scored twice in the first eight minutes in a 2-1 victory over NCAA D-II Delta State on Tuesday in Cleveland, Miss.

The Bulldogs ran their record to 11-0-0 this season with the win, using a familiar formula of early goals to take control of the match.

Josh Armstrong assisted on Goodwin’s fourth goal of the season just 46 seconds into the match. Goodwin returned the favor to Brian McNamara in the eighth minute for McNamara’s team-leading 10th goal of the year.

Each team posted just seven shots but six of Cumberland’s were on frame. Jonathan Hilton made one save but allowed both goals in the first half for the Statemen (4-6) while Jaacob Hauenstein collected three saves in the second period for DSU.

Cumberland’s Bennet Strutz made just one save while registering his 10th win of the year in goal.

The Bulldogs return to Mid-South Conference action Saturday at 2 p.m. Central Time at the University of the Cumberlands.
