LEBANON, Tenn. – Daniel Williams netted a pair of goals and Ryan Noble-Walker added his second goal in two matches in 23rd-ranked Cumberland’s 3-1 victory over No. 21 Lindenwood-Belleville in men’s soccer action Wednesday afternoon in Belleville, Ill.
Williams collected his 14th and 15th goals of the season, scoring just over six minutes into the contest and netting an insurance goal in the final three minutes for the Phoenix, who improved to 8-3-1 on the season.
Cumberland took the early lead when Valentine Murombo found Williams just 6:60 into the match. It remained that way until the 64th minute when Andres Garza Rodriguez assisted on Callum Walker’s score for the Lynx (5-4-0), knotting the match at one.
The Phoenix came right back, with Noble-Walker putting in a rebound off the crossbar less than three minutes later to regain the lead, and Williams put the match away with his goal in the 88th minute.
Cumberland goalkeeper Bennet Strutz recorded five saves in the win, while Lindenwood-Belleville’s Joan Carles Perez Castro made three saves.
Cumberland hosts eighth-ranked Campbellsville University on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in its next-to-last home match of the year.
