LEBANON, Tenn. – Gabriel Gonzalez scored a goal and collected two assists in the first half, helping Tennessee Wesleyan to a fast start in a 3-1 victory over Cumberland in men’s soccer action Wednesday afternoon in Athens, Tenn.

Gonzalez assisted on George Green’s goal in the 15th minute and found the back of the net on an assist from Fraser Barlow in the 20th minute, giving the Bulldogs (4-1-0) a 2-0 advantage. Gonzalez then assisted on Richy Volny’s score in the 37th minute.

Cumberland freshman Bakary Bagayogo netted the only score of the match for the Phoenix unassisted in the 80th minute. It marked the first road match of the season for CU, which had allowed just two goals combined in the first three outings of the season.

Cumberland plays at Milligan College on Sunday at 4 p.m. CT before returning home next week to face Fisk University.
