LEBANON, Tenn. – Daniel Williams netted his eighth goal of the year on an assist from Brian McNamara, leading Cumberland to a 1-0 win against West Virginia Tech in men’s soccer action Saturday in Beckley, W.Va.
Cumberland (5-1-0) did not allow a shot in the match by the Golden Bears (0-5-1), dominating possession for much of the contest. WVU Tech goalkeeper Jose Domingo Zam-mar collected four saves for WVU Tech in the loss.
Markus Skraastad’s wild shot came to the feet of McNamara, who fed Williams for the goal in the 19th minute. The Phoenix posted seven shots in the first half and six in the second period.
The very physical match included a combined 34 fouls and six yellow cards, four of those against CU players.
Cumberland hosts Martin Methodist on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field, beginning a three-match homestand.
