LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland men’s soccer will face Georgetown College in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Championships on Thursday at Warren Central High School in Bowling Green, Ky., as announced Monday by the league office.
The Phoenix tied for second in the league standings with Campbellsville University, drawing with the Tigers, 1-1, October 3 despite playing the final 70 minutes with just 10 men because of a red card. Cumberland lost the league’s fifth tiebreaker, goals allowed in MSC competition, garnering the No. 3 seed in the tournament.
CU posted a 7-0 victory over Georgetown at home October 13, with Brian McNamara recording a natural hat trick in the first 25 minutes of the match. The Phoenix head into Thursday’s outing with a five match unbeaten streak after a scoreless draw against No. 9 Georgia Gwinnett on Saturday.
Cumberland defeated Georgetown, 5-0, in the quarterfinals of last year’s conference tournament. CU is 7-4-1 in the MSC Championships since joining the league in 2012, reaching the semifinals in all five seasons and the tournament championship match in 2013 and 2015, winning the title on penalties in 2015.
