COLUMBIA, Ky.- Cumberland men's soccer gives up an early goal, No. 9 Lindsey Wilson holds on for the victory in a tight game on Tuesday.
Cumberland (7-6, 1-3 MSC) suffered their second straight loss for the first time since early last season.
Tyler Watson came out in the opening minute of the game and had a great opportunity to give the Phoenix a lead, but Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper David Coffey made a great save on Watson's breakaway.
In the sixth minute, Bruno Henrique scored the first goal of the match with a shot into the upper right corner of the goal off a Blue Raider's corner kick.
Cumberland put two shots on target in the 25th and 26th minute from Martin Walsh and Wilson Musyoka that keeper Coffey was able to save. Both Walsh and Musyoka were able to put one more shot on target throughout the match. Robin Windvogel and Watson's opening shot were the only shots the Phoenix were able to put on goal.
Oscar Dueso netted the second Lindsey Wilson goal in the 76th minute. Dueso one-timed a cross from Renan Ramos to beat keeper Nicklis Rulle.
Lindsey Wilson outshot Cumberland in the match 20-12 with each team putting six shots on goal.
Cumberland committed more fouls than the Blue Raiders, 13-10, while also having two more opportunities on corner kicks, 5-3.
The Phoenix return home to take on the University of the Cumberlands on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Lindsey Donnell.
