Bulldogs stay perfect

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland swept all three doubles and all six singles matches, as the 16th-ranked Bulldogs stayed perfect this season with a 9-0 victory Sunday over Bethel University at the Tommy Gray Memorial Courts.

CU (7-0) started with three easy doubles victories, as seventh-ranked Antonio Manuel Marcelo and Evan Sanna defeated Peter Baca and Kristian Takac, 8-1, at No. 1 and Devin Crotzer and Na’im Azhar won by the same score at No. 2 over Paolo Vecchi and Eduardo Espinar. Pedro Rodrigues and Andres Burgos posted an 8-2 victory at No. 2 against Travis Hyman and Raphael Sousa.

In singles Marcelo defeated Baca, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1, while Azhar posted a 7-6 (5), 6-4, victory at No. 2 over Vecchi and Sanna recorded a 6-2, 6-3, triumph versus Takac at No. 3. Rodrigues registered a 6-3, 6-2, win at No. 4 over Hyman, Burgos collected a 6-2, 6-4, triumph versus Espinar at No. 5 and Cristhian Hernandez won 6-0, 6-1, against Sousa at No. 6.

The Bulldogs host Alabama-Huntsville next Saturday at 11 a.m. and plays Georgetown College on April 3 and Bethel on April 5 before returning home to face Western Kentucky on 9.
