Rodrigues named TranSouth POW

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland’s Pedro Rodrigues was named the TranSouth Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday after helping the Bulldogs to a pair of victories, including one against conference rival and 20th-ranked Martin Methodist.

The sophomore from Batalha, Portugal, stayed perfect in singles this season and won both of his doubles matches to help Cumberland stayed undefeated in dual matches. He defeated MMC’s Cristian Arias, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4 singles and won his doubles match with Andres Burgos, 8-1, at No. 3 against Arias and Alvaro Morcillo.

Against Bethel University Rodrigues posted a 6-2, 6-2, victory versus Travis Hyman and he and Burgos claimed an 8-2 win over Hyman and Raphael Sousa. Rodrigues is now 7-0 in singles and 6-1 in doubles in dual matches.

Cumberland hosts Alabama-Huntsville this Saturday at 11 a.m. in the team’s only match of the week.
