LEBANON, Tenn. – Ainhoa Garijo Garrido, Ramon Puertolas and Riccardo Ferraris all advanced to the quarterfinals with two singles victories in tennis action Friday at the ITA Southeast Regionals in Georgetown, Ky.
Garijo Garrido defeated Milligan College’s Lexie Hill, 6-0, 6-0, and posted a 6-0, 6-0, win against Union College’s Christina Schoener, reaching to quarterfinals. The sophomore faces Lindsey Wilson’s Minja Gligic on Saturday.
Ferraris collected a 6-2, 6-7, 10-7, victory over Campbellsville University’s Alejandro Reyes and recorded a 3-6, 7-6, 10-6, win versus Autu Merenheimo from the University of the Cumberlands to reach the quarters. The sophomore takes on Lindsey Wilson’s Denis Porcic on Saturday.
Puertolas defeated Asbury University’s Luiz Hartfkopf, 6-7, 7-5, 10-7, in the Round of 32 and won 6-4, 6-4, against Asbury’s Choopat Suvimolstean. The sophomore takes on Martin Methodist’s Jesis Quesada in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
For the women Trinidad Aguirre retired down 4-0 in the Round of 32 to Georgetown College’s Lauren Fazenbaker and Joana Bou lost 6-0, 6-2, to Georgetown’s Shae Henry. Marianela Landi dropped a 6-1, 6-0, decision to Campbellsville’s Majella Nobile.
In doubles lost 8-1 to Campbellsville’s Nobile and Kaede Amano while Garijo Garrido defeated Campbellsville’s Bolor Enkhbayer and Grace Rowe, 8-5, before dropping an 8-6 decision to Lindsey Wilson’s Gligic and Jovana Peric, losing the final three games after taking an 8-5 lead in the match.
For the men Axel Lucich and Thiago Lopes posted an 8-2 win versus Campbellsville’s Alex Spalding and Castro Friday but lost 8-3 to Lindsey Wilson’s Porcic and Ivan Solans. Ferraris and Puertolas followed the same path, taking an 8-1 victory versus Georgetown’s Ryo Takeda and Tristen Nosek but dropping an 8-6 decision to Campbellsville’s Reyes and Cesar Castro.
