LEBANON, Tenn. – Ramon Puertolas collected two singles wins and he and Francisco Fernandez Meaca won his doubles draw for Cumberland tennis on Saturday at the University of the Cumberlands Fall Invitational in Williamsburg, Ky.
In doubles Puertolas and Fernandez Meaca recorded an 8-6 victory over Igor Golubovic and Eric Banoub before winning by the same score against UC’s Rodrigo Ratte and Luis Montull.
Thiago Lopes and Pau Grabuleda Cruañas dropped an 8-4 decision to Tennessee Wesleyan’s Maurico Muniz and Andre Kaloussieh and the Cumberland duo lost in a tiebreaker, 7-4, to Lee University’s Bruno Medeiros and Daniel Prata.
Puertolas defeated Rodrigo Ratte from the Cumberlands, 6-4, 6-7(9), 12-10, and led Lindsey Wilson’s Denis Porcic, 5-4, before Porcic retired.
Lopes lost 6-4, 6-4, to Reinhardt University’s Fábio Pereira but came back with a 6-1, 6-1, victory over Tennessee Wesleyan’s Bernet Paredes.
Fernandez Meaca defeated Miles Matthews, 6-1, 6-1, but lost by the same score to Reinhardt’s Anton Shultz, while Grabuleda Cruañas won his opening singles match, 4-6, 6-4, 10-3, versus Wesleyan’s Kaloussieh but lost 6-4, 6-4, to Reinhardt’s Brandon Lane.
Cumberland plays its final fall tournament this Saturday at Campbellsville University.
