LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland men’s tennis registered six singles wins and five doubles victories, including three apiece from Axel Lucich and Ramon Puertolas, this past weekend at the Campbellsville Fall Invitational in Campbellsville, Ky.
Each player had one singles match and at least one doubles outing in the one-day event hosted by Campbellsville University.
Lucich defeated Asbury University’s Luiz Hartkopf, 6-2, 6-1, while Puertolas picked up a 6-2, 7-5, win over Campbellsville’s Pablo Alonso Munoz and Pau Grabuleda Cruañas posted a 2-6, 6-2, 10-5, win versus Indiana University-Southeast’s Garret Fensler.
Thiago Lopes posted a 6-3, 6-1, victory against IU-Southeast’s Samir Shammas, Francisco Fernandez Meaca was ahead 6-3, 4-1, before Asbury’s Shane Mustor retired and Omar Santiagonúñez Ahumada recorded an 8-3 triumph over Asbury’s Westin Jablonowski. Riccardo Ferraris was the only Phoenix player to lose in singles, dropping a 4-6, 6-3, 10-7, decision to Campbellsville’s Alberto Perez.
In doubles Ferraris and Puertolas defeated IU-Southeast’s Shammas and Dane Baldwin, 8-5, and posted an 8-4 victory versus Asbury’s Julian Tellez and Aquille Trotman. Lucich teamed with Santiagonúñez Ahumada for an 8-3 win against Campbellsville’s Mehdi Bichiri and Jordi Serrano, before he and Lopes claimed an 8-1 victory over Asbury’s Mustor and Hartkopf.
Santiagonúñez Ahumada and Fernandez Meaca recorded an 8-5 win against IU-Southeast’s Fensler and Bradley Cross.
