Craft, Madut complete season at national championships
Garang Madut collapsed at mile 20 in hot and humid conditions during the men's marathon at the NAIA Championships over the weekend.

LEBANON, Tenn. – Danielle Craft placed 22nd in the triple jump and Garang Madut was among 32 participants who did not finish the men’s marathon in extreme heat and humidity over the weekend at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala.

Craft posted a mark of 36-3.5 on her first of three attempts on Friday at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores.

Thirty-two of the 77 runners in the men’s marathon did not finish, including the leader at mile 19 and runner in second place near the finish. Madut collapsed at mile 20 because of dehydration. Temperatures in Gulf Shores for the 6 a.m. race were in the low 80’s with 95 percent humidity, brutal conditions for a marathon.
