LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland’s Sydney Broderick and Courtney Maynard were named the TranSouth Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, on Tuesday after helping the Bulldogs win 3-of-4 games during their first week of competition.

Broderick started her collegiate career with a bang, belting home runs in both ends of the season-opening doubleheader against Bryan College. Her two-run homer in the opening game gave CU a 2-1 lead and her second home run was a three-run shot in a four-run first inning in the second game. The Knoxville, Tenn., native added an RBI single in the second game at Christian Brothers and the freshman hit safely in all four contests last week, batting .455 overall.

Maynard won both of her starts for the week, allowing two earned runs in 12.0 innings of work with 14 strikeouts and just one walk. The Lancaster, Tenn., native struck out nine in six innings against Bryan College, giving up two earned runs on a homer in the fifth inning. She struck out nine and did not walk a batter versus Bryan.

Against Christian Brothers the redshirt sophomore allowed an unearned run in the second inning but struck out five with one walk. Maynard gave up just four hits in both starts and has a 1.17 ERA in her 12 innings of work.

Cumberland split a doubleheader on Tuesday against Campbellsville University and hosts Indiana Wesleyan and Covenant College this Friday and Saturday, respectively.
