Phoenix fall in straight sets
Rachel Clement accounted for 14 assists in Cumberland's three set loss to Lindsey Wilson on Thursday, October 13.

LEBANON, Tenn. – The Phoenix fell to host Lindsey Wilson in a three set match on Thursday, October 13, while Rachel Clement recorded 14 assists and Michelle Evans posted eight kills, Maci Lerno tallied seven and Mikayla Wickham recorded six.

The Blue Raiders took an early lead in the first set and two kills from Abby Akins, and one from Evans Wickham would have Cumberland trail by four, 9-5. Lindsey Wilson would continue to extend their lead, and a few service errors and two points from Wickham would put the Phoenix down, 15-8.

A five point stretch for LW 23-11 lead, a point from Lerno and Evans wouldn’t be enough as Lindsey Wilson would claim the first frame, 25-13.

CU would trail by just one in the second stanza, with two points from Wickham and one from Evans, 6-5. Lerno and Ashton Perez would keep the Phoenix in just a three point deficit, 13-10 before the Blue Raiders would go on to score nine consecutive points making the score, 22-10.

Evans would score the last point for CU of the set and Lindsey Wilson would score their final three points to win the second frame, 25-11.

Akins would start the third stanza with a point, and LW would take a three point lead but a kill from Lerno and two from Evans would knot the score at four. The Blue Raiders would score five straight points to regain their lead, 9-4.

Points from Akins, Amanda Worrell and Lerno would keep the Phoenix within eight points, but LW would score four straight points taking a lead of 21-12. Evans would post two kills for CU as Lindsey Wilson would take the final frame, 25-14.

Cumberland will host Campbellsville University at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18 at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center.
