Pace, Davis lead Bulldogs in opening win

LEBANON, Tenn. – Jessica Pace posted 19 points and 14 rebounds and Yalonda Davis scored a game-high 22 points, leading Cumberland to a season-opening 73-27 victory over Oakwood University Saturday in women’s basketball action in Huntsville, Ala.

Pace went 6-for-8 in the first half and recorded 13 points and six boards while Davis netted 14 points, as Cumberland shot 48 percent from the field and forced 11 turnovers en route to a 39-8 advantage at intermission.

Stephanie Martin added seven points and four rebounds in the first period as well. Oakwood made only 3-of-15 field goals and 1-for-8 at the foul line.

Davis registered eight points in the second half and Pace collected six points and eight boards. Cumberland forced 10 more turnovers while holding Oakwood to just 6-of-20 from the field.

Madison Pavan added nine points for the Bulldogs on a trio of 3-pointers in the second half.

Cumberland plays in the Habitat Classic this weekend in Georgetown, Ky., facing host Georgetown College on Friday at 6 p.m. and Midway College on Saturday at Noon.
