LEBANON, Tenn. – Yalonda Davis scored 24 points with five assists and Casie Cowan added 16 points, leading Cumberland to a 68-48 victory over Oakwood University on Monday night in women’s basketball action at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center. For her efforts Davis was named the Music City Star of the Game.

Jessica Pace added 10 points, all in the first half, and 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the season and fourth double figure rebounding effort.

The Bulldogs (4-2) started fast, scoring the first nine points and taking an 18-4 advantage seven minutes into the contest. Davis scored six points and Pace added four points during the stretch.

The Ambassadors (3-4) pulled within 10 after a Courtney White jumper with 7:55 left in the half, but CU outscored the visitors 16-2 the rest of the period, with Davis and Pace each scoring six points during the run for a 39-15 halftime advantage.

In the second half Oakwood cut down on its turnovers and shot 50 percent from the field, making 12-of-24, but OU never pulled within 18 points despite two five-minute scoring droughts for the Bulldogs. Kimberly Pointer led the Ambassadors with 18 points, while White added 14.

Cumberland sccored 26 points off 21 Oakwood turnovers, including 17 in the first half.

Cumberland plays an exhibition game Thursday at Tennessee State at 7 p.m. before hosting fourth-ranked Campbellsville Univ. on Saturday at 2 p.m.
