Women's hoops 9th in MSC Preseason Poll

LEBANON, Tenn.- Cumberland University women's basketball was selected ninth in the Mid-South Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. 

Second-year head coach Scott Blum returns four letterwinners from last years squad. The Phoenix are geared up top be young this season with only two seniors, Katherine Griffith and Kerrice Wason. Coach Blum brought in 10 freshman and expects to see a lot of them get time this season.

Campbellsville was selected as the favorite to win the conference after picking up 64 points and eight of the nine first-place votes. The Tigers reached the NAIA Tournament quarterfinals last season.

Shawnee State was picked to finish second with 51 points and the other remaining first-place vote. The Bears advanced to the second round of the NAIA Tournament.

Lindsey Wilson comes in at third place with 50 points and also reached the second round of the NAIA Tournament last season.

Thomas More was selected fourth after going 32-0 last season and winning the NCAA Division III National Championship. This is the Saints first year in MSC play.

Georgetown was picked to finish fifth with 35 points while Pikeville and Life follow at sixth and seventh with 34 and20 points, respectively.

University of the Cumberlands gathered 17 votes for eighth in the poll and Cumberland rounds out the poll with eight votes.

The Phoenix open up the 2019-20 season on October 30th on the road against Martin Methodist.
