LEBANON, Tenn. – Freshman Delaney Lazenby and sophomores Morgan Stuckey and Savanna Strode all shot three-over par 76 and are tied for fifth for the Cumberland women’s golf team on Thursday in the opening round of the Bill Sergent Invitational at Crooked Creek Golf Club in London, Ky.

Cumberland stands in second place as a team, seven shots behind the University of the Cumberlands, who is placing on its home course.

Kaitlin Riley shot four-under par 69 to hold a four shot lead to take a four-shot lead of Lindsey Wilson’s Cristina Jimenez. Union College’s Sydney Smith and Sadie Martinez from the University of the Cumberlands both carded two-over par 75, just ahead of the Cumberland trio of Lazenby, who was playing in her first collegiate tournament, and the team’s two leading players from a year ago – Stuckey and Strode.
Sophomore Abbey Burgdorf posted an opening-round 80, seven-over par, and freshman Taylor Crouch shot 87.

Because of forecasted dense fog on Friday morning, both the men’s and women’s teams in the tournament will tee off in a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Eastern Time.
