Burgdorf shoots 78, Cleveland 79 for CU golf

LEBANON, Tenn. – Senior Abbey Burgdorf posted an opening-round 78 and junior Anna Leigh Cleveland shot 79, leading Cumberland women’s golf at the Mid-South Conference Fall Invitational on Monday in Georgetown, Ky.

Burgdorf carded a six-over par 78, tied for ninth, at Cherry Blossom Golf Club in Georgetown while Cleveland was just a shot back at 79, tied for 11th. Senior Savanna Strode collected a first-round 81, tied for 15th as well.

Sophomore Raquel Romero Valverde registered an 84 in her opening round, tied for 27th, and freshman Cindy Williams shot 90 in her first collegiate round, tied for 38th.

Kaitlyn Riley from the University of the Cumberlands was the only player under par on Monday, carding a four-under 68. She holds a five-stroke lead over Midway University’s Kathryn Lawler.

The Cumberlands holds a 15-shot lead over Lindsey Wilson heading into Tuesday’s final round, while Cumberland is fourth, seven shots behind Midway and nine in back of Lindsey Wilson.
