LEBANON, Tenn. – Sophomore Ana Laura Pages Preuss carded an even-par round of 72 to lead by two strokes and Cumberland women’s golf is second in the team standings, trailing by three shots, after the first round of the RedHawk Fall Classic on Monday at Canebrake Club in Athens, Tenn.
Pages Preuss led the field with four birdies and added 10 pars during her even-par round. The Mallorca, Spain, native holds a two-shot advantage over Alejandra Bedoya Tobar from Loyola University heading into Tuesday’s final round.
Senior Abbey Burgdorf collected two birdies and 11 pars for a four-over 76, tied for fourth among the 56 players in the field. Sophomore Raquel Romero Valverde registered 11 pars and one birdie on Monday, posting a six-over 78 for 10th place.
Senior Savanna Strode netted a pair of birdies and nine pars and finished with an 82 in the opening round, tied for 15, while junior Anna Leigh Cleveland tied for 23rd, shooting 86.
Loyola leads the team standings by three shots over Cumberland and five ahead of Faulkner University heading into Tuesday’s second and final round.
